Eye color: Bright yellow. Normally, a born werewolf could hide such a trait, but due to being born when her mother was mid transformation, she has some genetic abnormalities.Canines: Mel has a set of double canines that are always exposed. -three small dots at the base of her throat that she covers with a necklace from an anti-changing collar.Personality: Mel is extremely friendly to a fault. She will usually give anyone a chance once, her compulsion to cling to her humanity allows this to be an easy choice for her. She is reserved and shy at first, going almost formal and polite upon first meeting, but will always strive to be friendly. Her downfall is her short temper that is quick to flair when she feels she's been insulted. She is particularly sensitive about her eyes and canines, which she cannot shield due to a genetic defect.
Back Story
Melysandrae was born on the Skellige Isles to Thorindr and Natalia Corvinus, a family belonging to minor Skelligen nobility. She was the first female born into her pack, to the delight of her mother. But due to her mother being mid-transformation when she was born, Mel's eyes and teeth were more wolflike than those of her family, and therefore she was raised quite shielded. Her brothers, Reighnar and Blaze were raised to be fearsome warriors, the pride of their pack. Thorindr made it clear to his children that their beast blood made them superior. Natalia always did her best to shield her youngest from his tirades.All of that changed the night Natalia's father was murdered by a Witcher. Natalia's father was a cursed werewolf. Being born to the beast blood, their father raised Mel and her brothers to believe cursed werewolves were something to be pitied and viewed as lesser. But a Witcher striking so close to home sent a shiver down Thorindr's spine. Quickly changing his tune, he begged his children to cling to their humanity. He placed collars on the three with three silver spikes within them at the base of the throat. This forced them to stop their transformations. Mel, in fear, kept hers on. Her brothers tore theirs asunder.Thorindr was the next to fall, the same way as his father-in-law in an ironic twist (Thorindr had said that his father-in-law's lack of true beast blood had been what doomed him). Reighnar took his place as alpha and, out of respect, kept to his father's dying wish that they cling to their humanity. Blaze despised him for it, and one night in a rage, he murdered Reighnar.Mel was horrified by this, as was Natalia. They were hosting a gathering that night, the merchant family of Ragvar and his wife and children. Ragvar and his son, Ulfden, raced up the stairs when they heard the commotion. Upon seeing Blaze turning on Melysandrae next, they killed him on the spot. Natalia, in her grief induced madness, took to her wolf form and took to the forests rarely to be seen again. Ragvar and his family took Mel in, letting her leave Ravensheight Manor to its ruin.Mel let loose, removing her collar at will to ravage the country side. This, of course, led to a witcher being called. Johan, of the Bear School, came to her fledgling apothecary The Healing Hand, to ask some questions. Mel thwarted him, discussing how the bodies were often brought to her, but she had no idea what to do past comfort the dying. But in secret, out of guilt, Mel was using the healing skills she learned to heal her own wounds to aid those she doomed. One night, Johan heard the end of one such attack. Upon approach, he discovered Mel in human form, desperately trying to help the man she had all but murdered. He deduced, from her naked and bloody form that she was his quarry, but her clear remorse stayed his sword. Though the man died as they spoke, Johan made her swear that she would uphold her oath: no more hunting humans, only helping. When she agreed, he cut her cheek with his silver sword, saying "This is a reminder of how close I came to taking your head. Look at it daily."Mel does look at it daily, now that The Healing Hand has become a thriving business. She serves peasant and Witcher alike, giving others a second chance at life the same way she was given...
Relationships
Ulfden Ravgarsson: Mel's adoptive brother. When Mel's family fell, Ulfden's family took her in as one of their own. They had already been close family friends, so this seemed an automatic solution. Ulfden is much older than Mel, having been in his thirties when she was born, and therefore has a very protective stance over her. Grumpy and sea seasoned, an easy in with him is to mention one knows Mel.
Samuel Longbranch: Mel's former mate and the father of their daughter, Willow. Mel met Sam through mutual friends in a pub one night. They shared some laughs and bonded over their love of honey and a good drink. One thing led to another and the two fell deeply in love. Sam is a cursed werebear, and this caused Mel to feel insanely protective of him. They are no longer together and Mel doesn't like to discuss him.Willow: Mel's daughter with Samuel. She is a born werewolf, like Mel, since her wolf blood is genetic as compared to Sam's curse. Since Sam is a half elf, Willow is a quadrune, and due to this has very strange eyes. Her eyes are a bright, almost unnatural yellow-green color. She is bright and inquisitive, friendly and happy.Ser Gregoire de Gorgon: The Baron de Gorgon is Mel's patron, with The Healing Hand Apothecary being built on his land. He and Mel met ten years ago during a tournament to commemorate The Night of Long Fangs. After a favor is requested by Mel, Gregoire agrees to it so long as she agrees to be his personal physician. She agrees, and eventually after the birth of Willow and the breaking of Mel and Sam's mate bond, Gregoire and Mel go on to have a son, Miloh. Gregoire passes away from illness that Mel could not save him from, and she grieves him deeply.Miloh: Mel's son with Ser Gregoire. Miloh was born the recognized bastard of his father, Gregoire unable to marry Mel officially because of her lycanthropy. However, in exchange, he vowed to take no wife and to legitimize any children they both had together. After Gregoire's death when Miloh is ten, he inherits the title of Baron de Gorgon and is moved to be trained by the lords of the land. Mel is welcomed to visit him and she does very often.AU Storylines (other ships)Henryck van He'eran: Mel's parter that she shares with Schrodinger. The higher vampire and the she wolf were antagonistic for years until finally their passion overflowed into love. Their relationship is often tempestuous but the story remains the same: they adore each other, though good luck getting them to say it.Schrodinger: Mel's best friend, and Henryck's other lover. Mel thought that being in a three way relationship would be uncomfortable, but Schro makes things so easy! He is easy going and reliable, and Mel appreciates him.Ianto Llewelyn: Mel's partner, a blacksmith and inventor. She and Ianto met through his sister, Ailbhe, who is with Mel's brother, Ulfden. They greatly enjoy each other's company, getting into mischief with Mel's nephew, Gunnar. He is sweet and attentive, never letting Mel feel inferior for her lycanthropy and calling her his "sunshine" for her eyes.Eskel: Mel's lover, despite his Witcher profession. Despite being on The Path for long stretches, Eskel continues to return to Mel's apothecary for patching up at Geralt's recommendation. Eventually he starts coming even for minor injuries and then not for injuries at all. They have a deep and understanding bond, both of them seeing past the stereotypes of what they are and seeing each other for who they are.Rosemary: Mel's best friend. Mel sees her almost as a daughter, allowing for them to have an honest and deep relationship. Through Rose's deep trials and triumphs, Mel has stood by her side. Even through her questionable romantic escapades. Mel has lost many tea cups to Rose's antics.
